It’s all in the name, isn’t it? Patient.

Patient. Isn’t it ironic? The very word for someone in recovery reminds us what we lack the most: patience.

A gentle reminder from being aware mindfully that a recovering body requires a recovering mindset. Rushing back to "normalcy" can actually hinder the healing process. For Buddha's sake! I just emerged from surgery! There’s a hole in my stomach that’s still bleeding. I must first acknowledge that I am still in recovery and allow myself the time needed to heal properly.

While mindfulness is crucial, don't overlook the importance of patience.

Mindfulness isn’t about achieving perfection; it’s about being present. Right now, both my body and mind need my full attention—not a list of tasks or comparisons to my pre-op self. Accepting where I am today doesn’t equate to settling; it means I’m laying the groundwork for a better version of myself tomorrow. Every little step counts.

Even the smallest victories in regaining abilities deserve celebration. Did I sit up more comfortably today with less pain? Fantastic! Does feeding through the tube feel less clumsy? Incredible! These seemingly minor achievements are essential stepping stones toward full recovery.

I’ve realized that I’ve been too hard on myself for any mishaps or mistakes in taking care of myself. There’s no universal guide to self-care. Expecting too much too soon can lead to disappointment. Consider recovery as a staircase—every small step forward is significant. Acknowledging my limitations doesn’t mean I’m giving up; it’s an act of kindness towards myself.

Recovery is a journey, not a sprint. It's akin to planting a seed and expecting a towering tree to sprout overnight—nature doesn’t work that way, and neither do we. After something as significant as a PEG operation, it’s easy to fall into the trap of expecting life to return to normal instantly. But here’s the reality: healing, much like growth, requires time and patience.

Recovery imparts one of life’s most challenging lessons: patience. It’s not solely about healing the body—it’s about nurturing the mindset as well. I can’t rush the nature; the body needs time to heal! Trust the process and trust myself to heal. I will reach my pink of health, just one mindful and patient step at a time.

Spilling my "food" all over the place.
